Understanding 135

General questions

What is 135 Tennis Intelligence?

135 Tennis Intelligence helps players, coaches and parents understand what is happening during matchplay and what should be prioritised in development.

We combine structured match analysis, the 135 technology platform and interpretation from a trained Performance Analyst. The aim is not simply to provide more statistics. It is to turn match information into clear, practical intelligence.

How is 135 different from ordinary tennis statistics?

Ordinary statistics often tell you what happened without explaining why it happened or what the player should do next.

135 examines the context behind performance, including rally structure, point construction, shot outcomes and the difference between forced and unforced errors. A trained Analyst then identifies the information that matters most for the individual player.

What is the 135 Framework?

The 135 Framework separates each point according to the shots played by the server, the returner and during longer rallies.

The server plays shots 1, 3 and 5. The returner plays shots 2, 4 and 6. Rally sequences beyond those opening exchanges are measured as 7+. This structure helps reveal how points are constructed and where a player performs most effectively.

What does Profile, Benchmark and Measure mean?

Profile, Benchmark and Measure is the development methodology used by 135.

Profile builds a clear picture of the player. Benchmark identifies the areas that matter most in relation to the player’s development. Measure tracks change across future matches and helps guide the next steps.

Is 135 a technology company or a coaching service?

135 is platform-led and human-delivered.

Our technology organises match information and makes performance patterns visible. A trained Performance Analyst interprets that information, provides context and helps the player, parent or coach understand what matters.

135 supports coaching rather than attempting to replace it.

Player development

Parents and players

Who is 135 designed for?

135 is designed for developing competitive players who want to understand their match performance more clearly.

Players do not need to be nationally ranked or competing at an elite level. The important consideration is whether they are playing matches regularly and are ready to use match intelligence as part of their development.

What happens during a 135 Player Session?

A Player Session is a conversation with a trained 135 Performance Analyst based on the player’s analysed matches.

The Analyst explains the most important findings, places the information in context and agrees on a small number of priorities for the next development period.

The objective is to make the information understandable and useful rather than simply presenting a large report or a list of statistics.

Will 135 focus on everything that is wrong with a player’s game?

No. Effective development should not be based on overwhelming a player with negatives.

135 identifies strengths as well as areas for development. Player Sessions generally focus on no more than three clear priorities at a time, supported by context from the player’s match data.

This helps the player understand what to work on without becoming confused or discouraged.

How often should a player have matches analysed?

Match analysis is most useful when it forms part of an ongoing development cycle rather than being treated as a one-off assessment.

The appropriate frequency depends on how often the player competes, their stage of development and the programme they are enrolled in. The Foundation Profile and Competitive Pathway provide different levels of match analysis and ongoing measurement.

Can parents attend Player Sessions and involve the player’s coach?

Yes. Parents can attend Player Sessions, particularly for younger players.

Where appropriate and with the family’s agreement, information can also be shared with the player’s coach. The purpose is to support the existing coaching relationship and help connect match intelligence with training.

03

Supporting coaching environments

Academies and coaches

How does 135 work alongside an existing coaching programme?

135 adds structured match intelligence and player support to the coaching programme already in place.

Coaches continue to lead technical and on-court development. 135 provides an additional layer of match analysis, interpretation and measurement that can help coaches make more informed decisions.

Does 135 replace the player’s coach?

No. 135 is built to support coaches, not replace them.

Match intelligence can help identify what is happening in competition, but the coach remains responsible for the player’s broader development and the way priorities are addressed on the training court.

Can an academy use its own staff to deliver 135 Player Sessions?

Yes. An academy can work with a remote 135 Performance Analyst or have suitable members of its own team trained and accredited to deliver Player Sessions.

This allows the academy to choose the structure that best fits its coaching programme, staffing and player numbers.

What is a 135-accredited Performance Analyst?

A 135-accredited Performance Analyst is trained to interpret match information using the 135 Framework, identify meaningful development priorities and communicate those findings effectively.

Accreditation is not only about operating the technology. It also covers how information is interpreted, contextualised and delivered to players, parents and coaches.

Team intelligence

College teams

What does 135 provide to college tennis teams?

135 provides coach-ready match intelligence supported by a dedicated Performance Analyst.

Services can include analysis across the playing group, access to the 135 Analyzer, individual player profiles, team reporting and ongoing communication with the coaching staff.

How quickly is college match intelligence delivered?

Turnaround depends on the college service selected.

The 36-Hour Intelligence service is designed to deliver analysed match information within 36 hours. A limited 12-Hour Intelligence service is also available for programmes requiring faster turnaround during the competitive season.

Arrangements for sourcing away-match footage can also be discussed with the coaching staff.

What is the 135 Analyzer?

The 135 Analyzer is the platform used to organise match information, identify patterns and build a record of player performance over time.

It supports player profiling, benchmarking, reporting and ongoing measurement across multiple matches.

The Analyzer provides the structure and technology, while the Performance Analyst provides interpretation and context.

What type of match footage is required?

The full court and both players should remain visible throughout the point wherever possible.

A stable camera position behind the baseline generally provides the clearest view. Matches can often be recorded using a phone, tablet or dedicated camera, provided the footage is stable and the court is clearly visible.

Footage can then be uploaded according to the instructions provided by 135.

What is 135 Capture?

135 Capture is a recording solution designed to make it easier for players and families to film matches in a consistent format.

It includes the equipment required to position and operate the camera at the court. Players can also use suitable existing recording equipment where the footage meets the required standard.
